Have you heard that the word propitiation represents a form of forgiveness that is a big step above the word from the Old Testament, called atonement? If so, and even if you have not, you may be surprised to learn the amazing difference between these two concepts.
Believe it or not, there is a simple and clear answer to this question. But that is not all to the question. The question also entails the aspects of how John the Baptist is Elijah?
Just when you think the genealogies in the Bible cannot offer anything interesting to ponder, someone comes up with an amazing detail that one wonders why he has not realized the significance before. But then the question is, what does David’s not being allowed to build the house for God because he had blood on his hands have to do with Jesus’ genealogy?
There are some verses in Scripture, especially introductions to Paul’s epistles, that, to be honest, seem a little procedural, rather than spiritually rich with meaning. Once such verse is 1 Corinthians 1:2, which has some very significant truth that quickly gets overlooked when one reads the passage at large without focusing specifically on this verse. However, as we look at this closer, I believe you will find it rich with meaning.
The Gospels make a statement in John 1:13 that can be obscure in the current translations. In the KJV, NKJV, and the NASB translations--all three of them, when talking about how a person is born again, translate that it is, “not by blood, nor by the flesh, nor by the will of man”. Maybe it’s me, but these three methods of acquiring the new birth that the Gospel of John is articulating as not viable paths seems unclear. When read in the NIV or the NLT, it gets even harder to understand. However, these ideas are not as complicated as they may first appear.
The Fall of Lucifer is recorded in the Bible, and what you will read in this post will probably surprise you!
When you read one of the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John do you think you get a good understanding of how it all fits together? Or, when you read them, do you find yourself wishing you could have a chronological view of the events in an easy to understand translation?
Context is extremely important, and if you want to feel as if you were walking within the context of Jesus' life and ministry yourself, this is the best way available to experience it while staying within the confines of the text given in the eyewitness' accounts.
